Exclusive Interview with Kareena on Shahid,Saif, Priyanka, and much much more!

31 05 2009

She honoured her promise to take time out for a chat at Le Meridien, and in that chat, there were no unanswered questions, no matter how personal the subject. Bebo’s in a happy bubble of her own, it seems.

She doesn’t mind questions on Shahid Kapur, for instance. Do Shahid conversations make her unhappy?

“Not at all!” Bebo smiles serenely. “And that’s because I respect my past. Both Saif and I respect my past. Shahid is a wonderful human being and it’s extremely sad that things couldn’t work out. I don’t think that there’s anything much to say, but the fact is that I’ve been left with some wonderful memories. I’ll cherish them forever,” says Kareena. So she doesn’t think much about rumours linking Shahid to his female co-stars? “Why should they? That’s my past,” she repeats.

Other things have happened in the past – like current beau Saif Ali Khan visiting her, or vice versa, when they’re away from each other. How come he wasn’t with her on this visit to Delhi?

“This time he’s working. He’s also a producer now and busy with his film Love Aaj Kal with Imtiaz Ali. Besides, he doesn’t need to come everywhere. I mean, we spend enough time together. We take out a lot of time for each other. That’s important,” she says.
Marriage is not, though – important, we mean. She’s called marriage with Saif “just a formality” in the past. Is she going to move in with him? “Not right now. We travel a lot and we’re together pretty often. Besides, work takes up most of our time.” And what about the references to her as chhoti begum? “About chhoti begum I honestly feel it’s something we should save for a little later. Both Saif and I are working right now, and of course, I look forward to a wonderful future with Saif, but nothing is decided. Marriage? Not for two years,” she answers.

And tattoos? Never! “Saif doesn’t like women with tattoos. He feels that a woman is too pristine and pure to mark herself that way. I believe in the same thing. And I think he knows how much I love him ,” says Kareena.

So does the rest of the world, but bindaas Bebo’s on a roll, and seems to have no problems with that either. She says she and Saif have an “added responsibility”, as couples look up to them and their out-in-the-open relationship. “I’ve always been open about my relationships and my work. Saif comes from a very affluent family and a family associated with sports. Sports stands for a lot of integrity and honour. Both of us connect on that level. And I guess we’re trying to fulfil that in public. The audience, fans and the media should know what they should know, and I think we know where to draw the line. So they don’t know where I go on holiday with Saif, but they know that we do go on holidays,” says Kareena.

Another thing everyone knows is that she’s doing the opening act at a soon-to-be-held awards ceremony, but she doesn’t know that Shahid and Priyanka Chopra (her ex’s current purported flame) are doing an act too for their forthcoming Kaminay. “I’ve no idea. I didn’t know that. I really don’t get into what other people do. I’m interested in my work, my stuff, I’m always the last person to ask who, what, where. My monies are met, whatever I want is fulfilled and that is why I’m going to the awards ceremony. There’s no other reason.”

And what’s the reason behind the buzz that things are shakey in her Sudhir Mishra film, Dhruv?
The dates are actually not working out. There’s Stepmom with Kajol and me that I’ve said yes to. Agent Vinod, my film with Saif, was always on priority because I had signed it first. But due to the multiplex issue, Saif is not being able to release Love Aaj Kal on time and so, Agent Vinod can’t be started on time, and hence all my dates get pushed by three months. I’ve told Sudhir that I won’t be able to start the film for the next 9-10 months. If they want to wait for me, they’re welcome to and if not, they can carry on with whoever they like, because Agent Vinod is my priority . Then, maybe some other film together,” she says.

But she hasn’t done a lot of ‘alternative’ cinema post Chameli, has she?
Yes, not apart from Omkara. But all my films this year are performance-oriented. There’s the tentatively titled Qurbaan with Saif, one of the finest roles I’ve been offered after Jab We Met. Then there’s 3 Idiots with Raju and Aamir, Kambakkht Ishq – the totally commercial film with me doing a wonderful fun role. Then there’s Agent Vinod, with an extremely thrilling role for a girl. And there’s also KJo’s Stepmom, where I essay Julia Roberts’ role. Main Aur Mrs Khanna is complete too. Everything in these films is designed to make my role special, otherwise I wouldn’t be a part of them,” she says.

Was it special working with Hollywood biggies in Kambakkht Ishq too?
Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards are great people. Kambakkht Ishq is a fun film. You can’t go in expecting to see the greatest film. It’s going to be a potboiler. Go with a big bag of popcorn and enjoy the locations and costumes,” she says. But while on Hollywood, did she refuse Chimera with Billy Zane? “Yes, I was offered a film with Billy Zane or someone in it. But you know what? I’m not ready for that. My hands are full with interesting films here, where my role is a central one. I’m happy doing the kind of work I’m doing here right now. Hollywood is not for me just now. People may be vying to go there, I’m not. I want to be the best here. I’m working towards that. I work 18 hours a day for my endorsements, performance and films, because all this is really important to me,” says Kareena.

In-laws are important too – how was her family time with Saif’s mum, Sharmila Tagore? Before going to the Cannes film fest, Sharmila had said that she was looking forward to spending some time with Kareena and Saif, who were going to be holidaying in Italy then.

“That didn’t happen. She was in London and Saif and I were in Italy. We weren’t able to meet,” says Kareena. But Sharmila was definitely planning some family time? Adds Kareena, “Yeah, but we didn’t go to London. Our dates didn’t match.”No that it bothers Bebo.

31 05 2009

This year IIFA will be packed with stars! But unlike other IIFA events throughout the years this one will have many actors/actresses performing and rocking the show. Shahid and Priyanka will set the stages on fire promoting ‘Kaminey’ , Kareena (Bebo) will shake it out performing a belly dance, and Sonam will make her first on-stage apperance. Other than that Ashwariya will be shaking a leg also, and more people are being added on! The only bad thing is we won’t see Imran and Ranbir hosting 😦

This year’s IIFA ceremony is certainly going to be a phenomenal show if the hosts and lists of performers is to go by. Not only will it be hosted by the funny team of Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Boman Irani there are some special treats in store for the audience.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is scheduled to take the stage and do one of the things she does best dance. Kareena Kapoor, who was recently voted one of the best stage performers, will apparently perform a belly dance number plus Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor will be there to promote Kaminey. Sonam Kapoor will take the stage for the first time at IIFA. To take the show up another notch the brilliant troupe Cirque de Soleil will also be part of the evenings program. It was reported that renowned choreographer and dancer Prabhu Deva would be joining Salman Khan on stage but sadly Khan had to pull out.

This is the 10th year for IIFA and ambassador Amitabh Bachchan says there are even more surprises in store at the June 13th event so we should wait and watch!

Kareena’s performance at the 10th Idea IIIFA awards has a Turkish-Arabian feel. In one of the songs the actress will be seen as an Arabian princess dressed in gold harem pants made of silk, satin and lace, designed by the stylish Manish Malhotra. The song has been choreographed by Shaimak Davar.

Kareena says, “I’m performing at the 10th Idea IIFA awards this year and I am taking belly dancing classes for my act. I feel ecstatic about my show since this is the first award function I will be performing at this year! I have actually become very choosy about where I perform recently. I am performing at the 10th Idea IIFA awards since it gives me an international standing. This is also my third consecutive show at IIFA!”

Wizcraft director Sabbas Joesph adds, “Kareena, Shahid and Priyanka have agreed to perform. Also with their performance, we have Sonam Kapoor performing for the first time at any awards function. This year Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh and Boman Irani will be hosting the 10th Idea IIFA awards. I don’t react to Kareena-Saif: Shahid Kapoor

21 05 2009

Here’s an interview with actor Shahid Kapoor on Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Priyanka Chopra, and many more!!

And so, he is careful, hedging all his bets, and carefully avoiding saying anything controversial. But there’s plenty to read…between the lines and matching wits with him is exhilarating. Here’s Shahid, talking about Priyanka, Kareena and the girl who could get him if she had the right attributes. Read on to find out if you’re the one…

Are you and Priyanka Chopra a couple?

I have not spoken about my private life for the last two years and will continue not to do so. All I am going to say is that I am not going to make an effort to hide a relationship. When there is something substantial, people will know about it. There’s very little as an actor that you can keep to yourself, and this is an area which I would like to keep to myself. At the same time I would not like to be a hypocrite and hide it. But, when something substantial happens in my life, only then will I talk.

Define substantial

Difficult to define because we’re talking about a relationship. But when I feel that there is something that I am sure of I will speak about it. It doesn’t mean there’s something between me and Priyanka that I am not sure of.

So then, of course, there’s no point in talking about the fact that you have been squabbling with Priyanka and that there are problems in your relationship…

(Laughs) I think people need to have these CCTV cameras in my house or in Priyanka’s house to know and record the hypothetical fights that we’ve been having. Sometimes it’s irritating, but yes, most of the times it’s funny. As an actor you learn to have a sense of humour about these things.

So do you laugh equally when we talk about, Sania Mirza or Vidya Balan?

Laugh equally in what context?

In the sense that you can just laugh it off.

I’ve known both these girls. We’ve been good friends. Sometime we’re in touch, sometimes we’re out of touch. They’re both very very busy and wonderful people and I’m really fond of both of them and that’s all that there is to it. I mean, just because I’m single, every person I meet doesn’t have to be the one I’m in a relationship with. Having said that, I also understand that I had a very public break-up. Kareena and Saif are seeing each other so that’s something that people are familiar with right now. And since there is no substantial person in my life, anybody I meet kind of gets linked with me. From what happened in the past I’ve learnt and so choose to keep my private life as private as possible.

Evidently you’ve matured a lot since your last relationship.

In the last two, two-and-a-half years I think I’ve become a man. Yes. I think in my head I was very much a boy. By that I don’t mean that I’ve become mature and suddenly there’s no fun in life anymore. When you become a star there are so many things that can happen and you need to take responsibility for them and you need to be a little more aware about everything and everybody around you. I’ve learnt how to be intelligently spontaneous. I think being only spontaneous doesn’t help, you have to be intelligently spontaneous.

How do you react to Kareena saying that she has moved on and you should do so too?

As you see, I don’t react. That’s what I choose to do. That’s what I have been taught to do by my parents. That’s what I think is the right thing to do. I can only take responsibility for what I say. And I know what I do. And I know what has happened. And nothing can change the truth, so I don’t feel the need to clarify it because I don’t feel the need to justify it because I know I’m right in whatever I’m doing.

Maybe Kareena was just being a concerned friend…

I really wouldn’t like to jump to conclusions as to why she said what she said, honestly because I am me and she is she. She can choose to react the way she does to things and she is responsible for those reactions. And I choose to react the way I do, and I am responsible for my actions. I’m happy with where I am in my life and I’m trying to be positive and constructive about it and that’s all that I’m focusing on right now.

Saif says that Kaminay came to him first and that you are using his name now to get mileage for Kaminay. This is in the professional space. How do you react to this?

Well, first of all, Saif is many years senior to me, so as a professional, I wouldn’t really want to get into any kind of a… to-andfro kind of a situation in print. I think Vishal Bharadwaj is a great director, the role I am doing in Kaminay is a role to die for. It’s just that it’s really hard to believe that anybody would turn that down. I feel fortunate that I’m doing it, regardless of whether it was offered to anybody else or not.

Are you ghost directing the Ken Ghosh film?

(Laughs) All I can say is this is my third film with Ken – he’s the only director I have done three films with – I think that speaks for itself.

Did you have anything to do with Genelia D’Souza replacing Jiah Khan?

The change in the heroine was something that was informed to me, I wasn’t aware of it. I think that was a decision taken by UTV and Ken and they told me about it.

One hears that you were not happy with the climax of the Rani Mukerji film (Haddipa) and you actually stopped shooting for a few hours.

I wished that I’d known about this earlier, I’d lock myself up in the van after every two scenes and get my way! (laughs) Yash Raj is a very professional set-up and we have detailed narrations on the script before we go on sets. Most films I’m doing work like that now. So no, nothing of that sort has happened.

Do you have a three-film contract with YRF?

No, I don’t have any three-film contract. It’s just that this (Parmeet Sethi’s film) is the second film they offered to me, I liked it, and that’s why I’m doing it.

People say that you’re a control freak and that’s why your help and others leave you all the time…

As an actor you can’t be in control of everything. And if I wanted to be in control, I would not be an actor, I would choose to be a producer or a director who’s actually the captain of the ship. I’ve chosen to be an actor because I love acting. Yes, I’m very involved in what I do, I love what I do, I’m crazy about it, I’m obsessed with it, and I’m passionately in love with the process of  filmaking . But there’s a head of department of every part of filmmaking and they eventually take the final call and we always work as a team. And my most successful films have been those where everybody worked together as a team. I don’t think I’m a control freak. But I’m very passionate about my work and I need to be convinced about what I’m doing. And that’s something that most people who consider themselves involved would be.

Why do so many people leave you? And I’m not talking about girlfriends here.

First of all I don’t agree that ‘people leave me’. There are times that things haven’t worked out, sometimes I have chosen to part ways, sometimes others choose to. And there aren’t too many people who’ve left me. There are just a couple. One of them happens to be my manager. It’s about professional space so I don’t think I need to justify that. Apart from that, my PR person left because there was a difference in the way we looked at things.

But yes, maybe because it’s happened in a short span of time it’s seen in a certain way. I know people have been talking, but I don’t think I need to talk about it.

It is a completely different space that you’re occupying with Kaminay. Why now?

I’m somebody who’ll always end up going towards anything that’s different. That’s the creative person in me. It excites me. First, honestly, it scares me. Then I tell myself, if you don’t do this just because you’re scared, then you’re such a loser. Risks have always worked for me. Be it Vivah, or Jab We Met, or anything that I’ve done with these people when others were suggesting that I should be working with big banners. About Kaminay, well, a double role is something that you probably do just once, or maximum maybe twice in your whole career. And it’s such a fresh perspective to a double role, you’d be a fool to say no to it.

Rumours say that Vishal Bhardwaj and you were fighting like cats and dogs.

(Laughs) No yaar! I don’t think it’s possible to fight with Vishal. He’s just too calm and composed for all this. We’ve never fought. He’s too many years senior to me. In fact, this was one of the most chilled-out film as far as director-actor relationship is concerned. Vishal is so clear about what he wants that it just makes life easier for the actor.

What does a woman have to do to woo you, and to get you in that substantial space.

I wish I knew! Then I’d just make this list and give it out! But well, I think it’s very basic for me, I don’t have too many pre-conceived notions. Be real, be honest, be sensitive, have a sense of humour and have a sense of loyalty. I think if you have these four or five basics in place, you can make any relationship work. When those basics are strong, then the relationship is strong. That’s how I look at relationships. Both people have to want it as much, and when the basics are strong, you can ride any storm. Both people have to want to make the relationship work as much.

Now that we can put the list out, what will you bring to the table?

I’m ready to give anything to a relationship. As long as I’m not expected to change beyond what my basic nature is. Every relationship needs adjustment and understanding and you have to be ready to do that. But as long as you don’t end up changing yourself as the basic person you were, because then you’ll be unhappy. Apart form that, anything it takes! I’m always someone who’s looking for longevity. I think you must never get into a relationship expecting it to culminate, only, you should know that there is a possibility of culmination.

Shahid and Priyanka ‘might’ perform at IIFA Awards!

21 05 2009

Yes, ‘might’ because it is not all confirmed I will not start the whole drama that has already sprout. It’s getting me mad that people won’t accept Priyanka and Shahid single as they confirm to be. Both Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have repeatedly said that they are single..Shahid even said that he has no problem talking about who he’s dating, and will when he get a girlfriend. So leave them alone!!

May 21, 2009, (Sawf News) – Rumored couple Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra will perform a medley of songs together from their upcoming film Kaminey at IIFA, reports HT.

International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) event will be held in Macau, China, from June 11-13.

In a recent interview with the Mumbai Mirror Shahid was asked if he and Priyanka were a couple.

“I am not going to make an effort to hide a relationship. When there is something substantial, people will know about it… But, when something substantial happens in my life, only then will I talk.”

Asked to define substantial he responded:

“Difficult to define because we’re talking about a relationship. But when I feel that there is something that I am sure of I will speak about it. It doesn’t mean there’s something between me and Priyanka that I am not sure of.”

Quizzed on his relationship with Sania Mirza or Vidya Balan Shahid responded:

“I’ve known both these girls. We’ve been good friends. Sometime we’re in touch, sometimes we’re out of touch. They’re both very very busy and wonderful people and I’m really fond of both of them and that’s all that there is to it.”

Shahid will tell us who he dates!!

12 05 2009

(Shahid Kapoor: Who should I choose?? 🙂 )

Shahid Kapoor said that he will announce who he is dating if anyone and won’t hide it, but won’t scream it out either. So we now know that he’s not dating anyone because he hasn’t said anything!! (Please be Amrita Rao…Please be Amrita Rao 🙂 )

Kaminey also brings with it the Priyanka Chopra romance angle; it is being extensively reported that the two lead stars of the film are dating each other. “I’m not left with much of a choice, am I?’’ asks Shahid. “I’m linked to all my co-stars. With Kismat Konnection it was Vidya Balan, now with Kaminey it is Priyanka.’’

Smiling, he adds, “Priyanka and I are good friends. However, people have been jumping the gun. If we take our relationship further, I may talk about it; but people are in a rush to link us together. I will not lie or hide a relationship but I will not stand on the rooftop and announce it either.’’

Priyanka is just a friend: Shahid Kapoor :)

8 04 2009

This is one of the best headlines I’ve read till date!! Shahid say’s he’s only friends with Priyanka and there’s nothing else to be said!! Go SHahid and Amrita !!! Love you Pri-Chops!!

Shahid Kapoor says Priyanka Chopra is just a friend and reports of his romantic linkup with her are ‘miles from the truth’ and need ‘no clarification.’k

Asked to comment on news reports that Priyanka was the unofficial hostess at his birthday bash, Shahid told HT in an interview:

“I think everyone is in a huge hurry to settle me down with someone. Hey, I’m only 28! I’m pretty used to personal questions by now but it’s my life, let me live it my way without having to justify my friendships to the whole world. I’ll react only if I feel a story has credibility. If it’s miles away from the truth, it needs no clarification.”

He also refuted rumors of any on-set friction between him and his Hadippa co-star lady Rani Mukerji. There have been reports that the climax of the film was changed at his behest, upsetting the shooting schedule of the film.

“How is it that others know so much more about Hadippa than me when I’m pretty clued in on my projects? The film is on schedule. Rani is a fantastic co-star and I respect her as an actress. We’re one big happy family who can laugh off all these rumors.. ha, ha!”

Shahid, however, evaded another touchy question. Will he promote Milenge Milenge which pairs him with ex Kareena Kapoor?

“I haven’t given promotion much thought yet. And hey, the release date is still to be decided,” he ducked.
