I’m not turning producer:Katrina Kaif

24 11 2009

“I have no clue from where these rumours originate. It all seems to be coming out of thin air. There was never any indication by me in this regard,” Katrina told IANS.

There were reports that Katrina was playing a student in love with a married doctor in the remake of the French film “A la folie…pas du tout” (“He Loves Me…He Loves Me Not”). While she urges him to leave his pregnant wife, he doesn’t reciprocate accordingly.

“Well, sounds like an interesting story. However, any talk centred on the production of this film or any other movie for that matter is plain speculation,” the actress said. Katrina lights up when the talk veers to the super success of “Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani”. “Well, yes, we have got an amazing reaction for the film. Honestly, that was never really expected. Hence the way it has opened and sustained itself so well is pretty much a pleasant surprise,” said Katrina who teamed up with Ranbir Kapoor in the romantic comedy.

She is aware that now suddenly everybody feels that Katrina and Ranbir make the hottest on-screen pair and should be seen in more movies. “Of course, if a good film comes in, I would love to do a film with Ranbir. However, I can’t just look at my co-star – I should have an amazing role, the script should be good and so should be the director. Even if one of these anchors fall down, the movie can’t be expected to fetch great results,” she said.

Katrina would be next seen in Priyadarshan’s “De Dana Dan” opposite Akshay Kumar that releases this Friday. For someone who was written off six years ago after the release of “Boom” (2003), she has indeed come a long way with more than five hits in two years. Does she get impacted by people’s adulation?

“Frankly, I take it all with a pinch of salt. One can never get too carried away in this industry because at the end of the day, it doesn’t achieve you anything at all. The best way is to look at the work you are doing and continue to make careful choices,” Katrina said.

My girlfriend cried through Jail: Neil Niten Mukesh

11 11 2009

Neil mother and girlfriend sobbed uncontrollably throughout. “Priyanka Bhatia and my mom were hysterical with grief. They weren’t looking at just a character being put through a traumatic time. To them, it was someone who they both love in pain in front of their eyes,” said Neil. Neil admits Priyanka is an integral part of his family. “My parents and her parents don’t only know and like one another we also visit one another’s homes constantly. More than lovers we’re friends first. There’s a comfort level in our interaction that makes us very relaxed with one another. We don’t have to hide anything. We meet openly and are very proud of one another. There’s no pressure for marriage on either side. When it happens, it happens. The marital status on the passport would hardly alter anything between us.”

Priyanka has done a course in fashion designing. Neil is open to the idea of Priyanka designing his clothes for his films. “I’d love that. But it should happen on its own. Neither Priyanka nor I want to pressurize anyone to use her skills. But if it happens I’d be very happy to be dressed up by her.”

Another happy happening is the fact that Neil’s colleague Ranbir Kapoor’s film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani releases on the same day as Neil’s Jail. Says Neil, “Ranbir and I are of course competitors. But there’s no negative rivalry between us. Our respective fathers would kill us if we behaved like two brats fighting for the same roles. I’m proud that Ranbir’s and my grandfather were very close friends. My father and Ranbir’s father adore each other. Ranbir is like my younger brother.”

So is Neil saying Ranbir is no competition? “Of course he is!” rejoins Neil. “I’d want Ranbir’s film to do as well as mine. Fortunately, Jail and Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani look like the North and South pole.” On Tuesday night, all of Neil’s forthcoming directors saw Jail at Yashraj Studios. “David Dhawan, Abbas-Mustan, Kunal Kohli and Ken Ghosh saw the film. I think they liked what they saw. So I’m safe in their films.”

Ranbir Kapoor in lingerie!

23 10 2009

We too rubbed our eyes in disbelieve when we first saw this image of Ranbir Kapoor from the upcoming rom-com Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, co-starring Katrina Kaif.

The Kapoor lad who dared to drop the towel and bare his butt in his very first film now cross-dresses in a pink lingerie for a sequence in director Rajkumar Santoshi’s film.

However, we must add that two tennis balls would have made Ranbir’s lingerie act more eye-popping.

In case you didn’t know, Ranbir sports a number of other looks in the film – a halwai with a gamchha tied on his forehead; a Charlie Chaplin look; a bespectacled geek, a pathan with a beard and turban; a dancer with an Elvis hair-do; a regular dude with stubble; also a look inspired from his grandpa Raj Kapoor.

But his lingerie look is the most ghazab.

Ranbir and Katrina’s sizzling chemistry!

22 10 2009

The two come together for the very first time in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani that’s produced by Ramesh Taurani for Tips Films , directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and releases on November 6. The crackling chemistry between the two is for everyone to see as they get talking about the film.

Katz takes the lead, saying, “It’s an ordinary love story about ordinary people leading ordinary lives, but told in a very unusual way.” Ranbir adds, “That’s the perfect way to describe it.” The two are on a roll pulling each others’ legs, but at the same time, they seem pretty much in sync. So what’s the secret behind the chemistry? “Chemistry is not something that two individuals have, it’s what two characters have in a film. And it’s great that people are seeing this chemistry because this is a romantic film. I am happy that people can see it even in the promos of the film,” says Ranbir.

Katz agrees with him, “If you want the same thing and if your vision is the same, then you are working as a team. That’s something that leads to great chemistry.” Obviously, they had a great time shooting together. “Katrina was constantly bullying me and I was constantly complimenting her,” says Ranbir, tongue-firmly-in-cheek.

The two actors also bonded well because of their working styles. “Rajji is very specific as a director. He knows exactly what he wants and he gets his actors to do that,” Katz says. “But that doesn’t mean he’s a dictator. If we thought a scene could be done some other way, he would hear us out. We did get bound script and dialogues, but there were improvisations on the sets too,” adds Ranbir. Like Santoshi’s earlier comic caper Andaz Apna Apna, this one too looks like a mad comedy. Speaking about the film, they say that its USP is that it will appeal to a much wider audience. “It’s a blast, really.

A complete entertainer,” says Ranbir. “It’s a meant for everyone. The appeal is, definitely, wider and it’s something that people across all sections will be able to relate to,” feels Katz. But both feel that it’s not just another run-of-the-mill comedy. It has a lovely story, it’s not just a bunch of jokes put together,” says Ranbir of this ghazab kahani by Tips on which they had fun working with Ramesh Taurani.

Ranbir and I make a nice couple: Katrina Kaif

11 10 2009

Although Katrina denies having any affair with co-star Ranbir or allegedly dating the star she does admit that they make a cute couple.

But Katrina will lead you on a merry dance before she even discusses Ranbir as a co-star. The reason for her reluctance to discuss Ranbir, Bollywood’s hottest property at this point, is simple: she is still struggling to come clean on being nothing more than his co-star. The media link-ups have definitely made it awkward for KK to even address Ranbir in a casual manner.

That predicament be as it may,  Katrina is definitely rocking in her professional career. Excited at the way her songs in APKGK are looking, she says, “This film which is whacky, was to come in May, unfortunately the multiplex strike has pushed it to November. Now like eager school kids we are awaiting our turn to get on the release bus. With every film I’ve become jumpy and nervous. I await each release with a kind of nervous energy that I didn’t know I had. I’ve finally found my feet in Bollywood and now I’m able to enjoy each release as a versatile performer.’’

The film, she feels, gave her a chance to explore her comic timing. And after the success of New York, Katz is confident this film will prove to be one more feather in her cap. When she can’t escape talking about Ranbir, Katz weighs her words very carefully and says, “We’re all aesthetic people. Ranbir and I make a nice looking couple so the reactions from the industry have been positive. He is someone who matches my obsession and my energy on the set. I have extra exuberance (that is sometimes unnecessary) and since Ranbir is in my own age bracket, he can match my enthusiasm. It’s a kind of a competition between the two of us. And, I can tell you, Ranbir is a little more enthusiastic than all his co-stars put together as far as his work goes. He is totally dedicated to cinema.’’

On Diwali, Katrina will also have been in a seven-minute appearance in Anthony D’Souza’s Blue and then in a fleeting romantic mode with her favourite co-star Akshay Kumar in Priyadarshan’s De Dhana Dhan. While she makes it clear that Blue is a guest appearance, she says, “De Dhana Dhan is something I did for Akshay. His energy levels are unmatchable.’’ For some strange reasons, her thoughts fly to a desert number with Akki in Singh is Kingg. “The heat was like a thousand degrees,’’ she recalls. “It was hard to breathe. Yet Akshay doing the song with total intensity; it was as if he was unmindful of the hard sun beating down on us. When I saw that I said, ‘God, I can’t be matching his energy with anything less… so I gave it my 200 per cent also.’’
