Kareena fumes on ‘nude’ question!!

16 06 2009

New Delhi media was in for a shock as Kareena Kapoor staged a walk out of a press conference in the city where she was present to promote her upcoming film Kambakkht Ishq. Visibly upset and fuming with anger, she marched towards her suite when a female reporter questioned her if she would be willing to go totally nude for camera if the script demanded so.

Informs an onlooker who was present at the venue, “The question shocked her. Just a few minutes back, she had patiently handled queries regarding her professional life. She had also commented around wearing a bikini in Tashan and now Kambakkht Ishq mainly because the ‘script demanded it’. Though averse to doing so in future projects, she admitted that she would keep the subject and story in mind and would do ‘anything’ that is required by the script.”

Though it was a diplomatic stand on affairs, things went a little too far when an over zealous reported popped the question – ‘Would you mind going nude for a role?’ “This was it”, adds the source, “Kareena lost her cool at that very moment and rather than choosing to blast the reporter and create a scene, she simply aborted her stay at the press conference. The flabbergasted reporter didn’t know what hit her. The event coordinator too felt disgusted about the entire incident and found himself in trouble as this situation was totally unforeseen.”

The source continues, “There were problems for Kareena from the very beginning of the event. First and foremost the chosen venue itself wasn’t conducive enough to handle a large media that had assembled. Around 100 odd reporters and journalists had gathered in a room that wasn’t large enough to host a mega celebrity press conference like this. With the claustrophobic venue not helping the cause enough, queries like these were enough for Kareena to blow her fuse.”

For media and the film, director Sabbir Khan came to rescue though. He handled the situation well by staying on at the venue and continued to interact with the reporters. “Yes, Kareena was justified in walking out but Sabbir too did all to ensure that promotion of Kambakkht Ishq didn’t get impacted”, says a fellow reporter, “He realises that the film is just a few days away and didn’t want any bad blood to spoil the show. He had a thin rope to walk on and did pretty well in rescuing the event from turning into a complete disaster.”

Kareena chooses Saif over IIFA!!

9 06 2009

Kareena Kapoor decided to go to with Saif on a tour instead of perform at the IIFA awards! She was supposed to do her famous belly-dance that she was learning for months! Rumors why she dropped out of IIFA :

1) She really loves Saif.

2) Shahid-Priyanka are performing. (Pressure can kill 🙂 )

3) Kambakkht Ishq is postponed till July 3rd, 2009 so she doesn’t want to do the track sequence!

Whatever the reason may be, Kareena has made her decision, but she not the only one who opted out!!

No wonder Kareena is giving a miss to a stage performance at IIFA to be with her Saifu in England for the ongoing T20 world cup.

Kareena’s business manager has confirmed the lady’s decision to opt out and said it’s because of contractual problems. The buzz is that Kareena wanted her performance to mark the starting or the end of the function. But the organizers had no such plan. The grand finale performance was already booked for the Bachchans, Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya respectively.

Saif, on the other hand, has tied up with T20 to promote his maiden production venture Love Aaj Kal and he will be in England to do the publicity of his movie. And, unsurprisingly, Bebo decided to accompany him despite the fact that she was getting paid a whopping amount for IIFA performance. Not only was she learning belly dancing under Shiamak Davar , but had also finalized her dress for the performance. She was to dance to her song Marjani from ‘Billu’.

Saif too wanted to use the platform of IIFA to promote ‘Love Aaj Kal’ and had thought of an international press meet but later dropped the idea.

Saif and Kareena are not the only ones who have opted out of IIFA. Shahrukh Khan has been giving his royal snub to IIFA for the last many years. Farah Khan also won’t attend the awards night as she’s choreographing a song for SRK in the US. And now, even Akshay Kumar has decided to miss this year’s IIFA as he’s taking his son on a holiday.

The IIFA weekend will be held from June 11 to 13 in Macau

Strikes over!! Akshay-Kareena go to Kambakkht Ishq Press Release!

6 06 2009

The Bollywood strike is over and movies will be over flowin. The first release is Kambakkht Ishq starring Kareena Kapoor and Akshay Kumar. They recently went to the first Kambakkht Ishq Press Release. Here’s what they said:

Look what a strike does for you. It makes a sixty day dry spell and then when it calls it off, within four hours of notice; there are hundreds of media personnel present to attend the exclusive press conference of Kambakkht Ishq at Taj Lands End in Bandra. It wasn’t the media alone who were given a short notice. Akshay Kumar had to fly down from Karjat in an hour’s notice and Kareena had to rush from Mehboob Studios to attend the grand event. “Aap log kaafi bor nahin ho gaye the… koi film release nahin ho rahi thi. Kuch masala kisi ko nahi mil raha tha…” said the ever humorous Akshay Kumar by standing up graciously as he attends the media. Kareena Kapoor too joined in and gave a short speech. A glimpse of the film’s trailer and a song was screened for the media and a surprise cake cutting ceremony was held to mark the release date of the film – June 10. Then comes the stampede. Journalists, photographers and the camera crew rush to the near by room where the two sexes – Viraj (Akshay) and Simrita (Kareena) are ready to battle it out with some absurd, strange, mad and some decent questions thrown to them. As Akshay Kumar aptly said, “The battle of the plexes are over and the battle of the sexes has begun”. Time for some reaction to reactions.

Akshay Kumar:

The strike is over and Kambakkht Ishq has finally found a release date. How happy are you?
I am very happy about it and who wouldn’t be happy? I am continuously working and three to four films of mine are already done and dusted. Yes, I was upset and angry that there was not a single film being released since two months. It’s like making a product and there is no buyer. I got to know of the strike at 3 am. I have come down all the way from Karjat and going to go back with a big smile on my face.

Who is Viraj Shergill in the film?
You should know this by now as you’ve even got a press kit but to answer your question, Viraj is a stuntman in Hollywood. I got an opportunity to do stunts with ‘Superman’ and ‘Rambo’ (laughs). It’s a battle of sexes but the inside news is that the female sex wins.

This is going to be your biggest release as far as the number of prints are concerned. How excited are you?
Well, I don’t know about that but I don’t know how you know about it.

Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor Apparently, it’s going to have an English release too considering that it’s got Sylvester Stallone in it.
I actually don’t know much about it because they have signed me as an actor and not as an exhibitor and a distributor. But I’ll surely find out and let you know about it and if it is something like what you’ve informed me, then I’m very happy because we’ll get an international audience. Sajid was aiming for something like this.

Brief about Sabbir Khan the new director.
I’ve always enjoyed working with new directors. In fact, I’ve always given hits with new directors. Be it Sajid Khan, Vipul Shah, Guddu Dhanoa, Naresh Malhotra, etc. I always see a greed in a new director because they are very greedy about work, they want to prove it and they bring new ideas on the table. That’s what has inspired me about Sabbir. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I always see a greed in a new director because they are very greedy about work

How technically different is Kambakkht Ishq compared to all the other Nadiadwala films you’ve worked in?
From Judwaa, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi, Heyy Babby, etc, Sajid has always maintained an upward graph. His climb is slow but sure. There is always something new in terms of technicalities in all his films. This is going to be his biggest film.

How different are stunts in Hollywood compared to that of Bollywood?
The West believes a lot in safety. I had to sign a lot of paper work. They maintain the health and safety issue a lot out there which is good. Here it’s like, “Chal bhai ab upar se kood. Sab kuch theek hai, tu sirf kood. Boxes bhi theek hai. Kood ja.” I’m from the school of Bollywood and when I go there I learn a lot in terms of safety issues surrounding the stunts. Our school is tough, no doubt about it. Out here we sometimes even fall off the building with no boxes down there. When the West hear about our bizarre stunt stories, they are in for a shock.

I’m from the school of Bollywood and when I go there I learn a lot in terms of safety issues surrounding the stunts

Is the USP of the film the stunts you’ve performed?
The film is not about stunts. I’m just playing a stuntman. Mere stunt pe koi katha nahin likhi unhone. Stunt is just my profession in the film.

Why do you think this film will work?
I don’t know why this film will work. But I haven’t played this kind of a role in any of my films, it’s one of my best romantic films. I’ve been doing a lot of comedy and action. Kambakkht Ishq is very good for a change.

Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor This is the seventh time you’re working with Kareena Kapoor. How was the experience?
Well, unke parivaar ka maine thhekaa le rakha hain. I’ve done fourteen films with Karisma and seven with Kareena. Ab dekhte hain…unke bachhe honge toh unke saath bhi kar lenge.

In terms of fitness, you were pitted against a sixty plus year old man who is physically fit. What did you learn from Sylvester in regards to fitness?
Well, that man had lots and lots of stories to tell. I was very surprised to know some of his stories. We shared a lot of stories in Thailand as he has shot some of the Rambo movies in Thailand and I too come from Thailand. I’ve stayed there for seven years. The way he works is amazing. Sylvester doesn’t just remember his dialogues but he knows all the other dialogues of the people around him. It’s a good trait and something which we in Bollywood should learn.

Sylvester doesn’t just remember his dialogues but he knows all the other dialogues of the people around him

What is the style statement of your shoes?
What has that got to do with the film?

There is a dialogue in the film where you say ‘Women are only good for one thing’. Isn’t that an insult to women?
Motherhood you mean? Yes, I say that but it’s just the character I play in the film who is a male chauvinist.

You’re looking dapper day by day. What’s the reason?
I eat Chyavanprash everyday. You should also try it.

Kareena Kapoor Kareena Kapoor:

This is the seventh time you’re working with Akshay and your chemistry with him is working out fine. What say?
I love to work with Akshay Kumar because I’ve known him since I was in school. I met him first on the sets of Deedar with Karisma. He is one of India’s biggest superstars. His struggle along with Karisma’s has gone hand in hand. It feels like he is a part of a family.

I love to work with Akshay Kumar because I’ve known him since I was in school

Your best friend Amrita Arora is also there in Kambakkht Ishq.
It’s been great. I’ve worked with her in Golmaal Returns and I’m hoping that this film too does well like Golmaal Returns.

You look is very different in the film. Tell us something about it.
The stylist of this film is Aki Narula. We’ve shopped from Milan and Rome for the costumes of Kambakkht Ishq. You will not find such kind of dresses in a normal Hindi film. We’ve gone to a very understated and a classic look. I’ve got lots of messages from people about my look and it feels nice.

How different is Simrita from Kareena Kapoor?
Very different. Simrita in the film is a feminist and I’m not. Simrita is a tough nut to crack and I’m not. Simrita is quite insensitive in the first half which I’m not. But that’s the whole fun of it because we play roles different from our real life personality.

Simrita in the film is a feminist and I’m not

You too have got a dialogue saying ‘Men want only one thing’.
Don’t you think so? Lagta toh aise hi hain na? When you watch the film you’ll realise that. You guys watch English film, don’t you? Then why make such a big issue out of it?

How was it like shooting in Hollywood with Hollywood stars?
I loved working in Los Angeles. We had a beautiful weather and we got to work with the Hollywood crew. What more can we ask for? I’ve only done one scene with Denise Richards and two scenes with Sylvester Stallone. They are absolutely normal as normal can be.

Kareena Kapoor How physically challenging and tedious can a role be after you’ve played size zero in Tashan?
Well, Tashan was tiring because I had to maintain a figure which sent the national economy for a toss. It’s nice and different in Tashan. Actually, I challenged myself to that film. Whereas in Kambakkht Ishq it’s more like the girl needed to be voluptuous and fuller. She needed to be more fashion conscious. I will don and change myself according to whatever role.

You just mentioned that you want to see Akshay Kumar on the top as he is your favourite hero. What about Saif? Don’t you want to see him on top too?
Saif is in the top already.

What was the best compliment you received from Sylvester Stallone?
The fact that I got to sit with him, interact with him and learn something from a hero who is like a father figure is more than what you can ask for. For me, that was my compliment.

We heard that Saif didn’t like you wearing a bikini in Tashan and a swim suit in Kambakkht Ishq.
People don’t wear jeans and go swimming, do they?

Which is your favourite song from the film?
There is a song with my name ‘Bebo’ in it and that is my favourite.

Akki is the REAL and REEL stunt-man!!

3 06 2009

We all thought that Akshay Kumar might just be doing moves for Kambakkht Ishq, but this actor not only do for the REEL… he can do them for REAL!!

One of the major action sequences of Kambhakt Ishq was shot recently. It has Akshay Kumar jumping through fire with a jet ski.

Akshay insisted on doing the scene himself instead of using a body double. The rule at the studio they were shooting had stated that if an actor wants to do his stunt he has to pass a test, which would be judged by a panel of six stunt directors. Akshay passed the test successfully and was allowed to carry on with the shoot. However, it isn’t just the jet ski that Akki will be seen riding. The actor will be seen jumping from a water ski to a speed boat and finally using a chopper. The action sequence was shot with the help of nine cameras. Though the entire unit was worried about the shot, Akshay wasn’t hassled. He was absolutely calm and managed to complete the shot without a glitch. Well, he isn’t called khiladi for nothing.

Exclusive Interview with Kareena on Shahid,Saif, Priyanka, and much much more!

31 05 2009

She honoured her promise to take time out for a chat at Le Meridien, and in that chat, there were no unanswered questions, no matter how personal the subject. Bebo’s in a happy bubble of her own, it seems.

She doesn’t mind questions on Shahid Kapur, for instance. Do Shahid conversations make her unhappy?

“Not at all!” Bebo smiles serenely. “And that’s because I respect my past. Both Saif and I respect my past. Shahid is a wonderful human being and it’s extremely sad that things couldn’t work out. I don’t think that there’s anything much to say, but the fact is that I’ve been left with some wonderful memories. I’ll cherish them forever,” says Kareena. So she doesn’t think much about rumours linking Shahid to his female co-stars? “Why should they? That’s my past,” she repeats.

Other things have happened in the past – like current beau Saif Ali Khan visiting her, or vice versa, when they’re away from each other. How come he wasn’t with her on this visit to Delhi?

“This time he’s working. He’s also a producer now and busy with his film Love Aaj Kal with Imtiaz Ali. Besides, he doesn’t need to come everywhere. I mean, we spend enough time together. We take out a lot of time for each other. That’s important,” she says.
Marriage is not, though – important, we mean. She’s called marriage with Saif “just a formality” in the past. Is she going to move in with him? “Not right now. We travel a lot and we’re together pretty often. Besides, work takes up most of our time.” And what about the references to her as chhoti begum? “About chhoti begum I honestly feel it’s something we should save for a little later. Both Saif and I are working right now, and of course, I look forward to a wonderful future with Saif, but nothing is decided. Marriage? Not for two years,” she answers.

And tattoos? Never! “Saif doesn’t like women with tattoos. He feels that a woman is too pristine and pure to mark herself that way. I believe in the same thing. And I think he knows how much I love him ,” says Kareena.

So does the rest of the world, but bindaas Bebo’s on a roll, and seems to have no problems with that either. She says she and Saif have an “added responsibility”, as couples look up to them and their out-in-the-open relationship. “I’ve always been open about my relationships and my work. Saif comes from a very affluent family and a family associated with sports. Sports stands for a lot of integrity and honour. Both of us connect on that level. And I guess we’re trying to fulfil that in public. The audience, fans and the media should know what they should know, and I think we know where to draw the line. So they don’t know where I go on holiday with Saif, but they know that we do go on holidays,” says Kareena.

Another thing everyone knows is that she’s doing the opening act at a soon-to-be-held awards ceremony, but she doesn’t know that Shahid and Priyanka Chopra (her ex’s current purported flame) are doing an act too for their forthcoming Kaminay. “I’ve no idea. I didn’t know that. I really don’t get into what other people do. I’m interested in my work, my stuff, I’m always the last person to ask who, what, where. My monies are met, whatever I want is fulfilled and that is why I’m going to the awards ceremony. There’s no other reason.”

And what’s the reason behind the buzz that things are shakey in her Sudhir Mishra film, Dhruv?
The dates are actually not working out. There’s Stepmom with Kajol and me that I’ve said yes to. Agent Vinod, my film with Saif, was always on priority because I had signed it first. But due to the multiplex issue, Saif is not being able to release Love Aaj Kal on time and so, Agent Vinod can’t be started on time, and hence all my dates get pushed by three months. I’ve told Sudhir that I won’t be able to start the film for the next 9-10 months. If they want to wait for me, they’re welcome to and if not, they can carry on with whoever they like, because Agent Vinod is my priority . Then, maybe some other film together,” she says.

But she hasn’t done a lot of ‘alternative’ cinema post Chameli, has she?
Yes, not apart from Omkara. But all my films this year are performance-oriented. There’s the tentatively titled Qurbaan with Saif, one of the finest roles I’ve been offered after Jab We Met. Then there’s 3 Idiots with Raju and Aamir, Kambakkht Ishq – the totally commercial film with me doing a wonderful fun role. Then there’s Agent Vinod, with an extremely thrilling role for a girl. And there’s also KJo’s Stepmom, where I essay Julia Roberts’ role. Main Aur Mrs Khanna is complete too. Everything in these films is designed to make my role special, otherwise I wouldn’t be a part of them,” she says.

Was it special working with Hollywood biggies in Kambakkht Ishq too?
Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards are great people. Kambakkht Ishq is a fun film. You can’t go in expecting to see the greatest film. It’s going to be a potboiler. Go with a big bag of popcorn and enjoy the locations and costumes,” she says. But while on Hollywood, did she refuse Chimera with Billy Zane? “Yes, I was offered a film with Billy Zane or someone in it. But you know what? I’m not ready for that. My hands are full with interesting films here, where my role is a central one. I’m happy doing the kind of work I’m doing here right now. Hollywood is not for me just now. People may be vying to go there, I’m not. I want to be the best here. I’m working towards that. I work 18 hours a day for my endorsements, performance and films, because all this is really important to me,” says Kareena.

In-laws are important too – how was her family time with Saif’s mum, Sharmila Tagore? Before going to the Cannes film fest, Sharmila had said that she was looking forward to spending some time with Kareena and Saif, who were going to be holidaying in Italy then.

“That didn’t happen. She was in London and Saif and I were in Italy. We weren’t able to meet,” says Kareena. But Sharmila was definitely planning some family time? Adds Kareena, “Yeah, but we didn’t go to London. Our dates didn’t match.”No that it bothers Bebo.

AKshay and Kareena to kiss in Kambakkht Ishq??

21 05 2009

Rumor has it that Bollywood hunk Akshay Kumar and Bollywood hottie Kareena Kapoor are going to kiss in Kambakkht Ishq. But news has it that Akki wasn’t the one who was nervous!!

It’s not only her bathing costume scene from Kambhakt Ishq that Kareena Kapoor has contractually prevented from being aired or put on hoardings.

Apparently, there’s also a sensual kiss she enjoys in the film with Akshay Kumar that’s being given the miss. You won’t see that popping up on your television screen during the film’s promos.

Barring a fleeting peck with Fardeen Khan in Govind Nihalani’s Dev, the only time Kareena did a kissing scene was in Jab We Met with Shahid Kapoor whom she was then seeing. And, now she’s done one with Saif Ali Khan in Rensil D’Silva’s film.

Kissing Akshay was problematic for Kareena. The actress was reportedly hesitant. Akshay was her sister Karisma’s co-star. As a 12-year-old, she had vsited Karisma’s sets and hid shyly from him. And Akshay treats her like a kid. He’s very protective of her. So he, too, was hesitant. But they knew that the kiss comes at a point in the plot when an intimacy beyond the superficial had to be shown. Both stars took their respective soul mates into confidence before getting into it. Neither Saif nor Twinkle minded. So, they kissed!
